Want to Try Your Hand at Writing? It’s never too late to start

Want to Try Your Hand at Writing? It’s never too late to start

It has been rightly said that ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’. Words truly have the power to inform, guide, coax, teach, hurt and heal. Whether you are interested in taking up writing as a full fledged career option or simply as a hobby, writing is guaranteed to fascinate you and help you grow as a person.

Writing: Creative Outlet
Writing is considered to be one of the most creative outlets available as it enables the writer to project his/her inner most thoughts to the rest of the world. Taking up writing as a means to express oneself can be one of the most therapeutic exercises a person can undertake.

As you pen down your thoughts, feelings, opinions and views, you will feel a sense of satisfaction. If your mind has been cluttered with too many things, writing about them will help you to feel a sense of relief and rejuvenation.

Depending on what you want to say (express your love for someone, say thank you, present your thoughts on an issue, apologize for a mistake you have made or write an article to inform), the use of right the words will enable you to share your feelings of love, express your gratitude, release tension or simply put your thoughts across to someone in the best possible manner.

Everyone Begins Somewhere
If you are truly interested in expressing yourself through the written word, don’t let anyone stop you. For unless you try to write, you will never know just how good you are at it.

It is up to you whether you want others to read what you write. If you don’t, it’s okay to write only for your own pleasure. Start by writing on any topic that you feel strongly about. If you wish to get an opinion on what you have written and would like the world to read what you write, start by asking someone else to read it and provide their review on the same.

You can also submit your articles to websites that accept contributions from writers. It is not necessary to look for paid opportunities especially if you are starting out. Contribute your writing to websites such as that accept articles, stories, poems, and musings. Don’t lose heart if you are rejected the first time. Request for a review and try to ask why your article was rejected. Doing so will help you to improve.

Read articles written by other writers as this will help you to familiarize yourself with different writing styles.

• Consider starting your own blog. It is easy and useful if you wish to present your thoughts regularly.

Writing is also one of the best ways to work and improve on your grammatical skills and vocabulary. If you are not confident about your skills and really want to improve, this is all the more reason to write more often.
